Diesel prices continued their recent downward trend falling for the third consecutive week.

Terminal gate pricing data from the Australian Institute of Petroleum shows prices falling in all states excluding Darwin, hovering around the 110 cents per litre mark throughout the week.

Melbourne and Brisbane had the cheapest diesel throughout the week at an average price of 116.2 cents per litre and 116.4 cents per litre respectively.

Diesel in Sydney and Adelaide was slightly more expensive, finishing the week with averages of 116.5 and 116.8 respectively.

As usual Darwin topped the list with an average diesel price of 121.1 cents per litre, 3.8 cents higher than Perth which finished as the second most expensive city at 117.3 cents a litre, down 1.5 cents on the previous week.

AIP data is based on information provided by BP Australia, Caltex, Shell Australia and ExxonMobil, averaged across terminals and capital cities.
