Volvo Buses has expanded its worldwide electromobility offerings with the introduction of its new BZR Electric platform.
Volvo Buses says the platform builds on the success of its low-floor electric bus platform range, which currently operates in 25 countries.
“We have a firm ambition to accelerate our efforts to meet the global demand for electromobility solutions,” Volvo Buses president Anna Westerberg says.
“Therefore, it’s logical to extend our electromobility offer to include solutions for intercity, transit and commuter operations.
“The BZR Electric is a globally offered platform that we can adapt to the variety in requirements of customers worldwide. It’s another major step for us in our efforts to provide efficient and sustainable transport solutions both today and in the future.”
The BZR Electric includes a single or dual motor driveline and a modular energy system where the number of batteries can be adjusted to match different types of operation.
It also comes with Volvo Buses’ active safety systems that have a specific focus on protecting cyclists and pedestrians.
With the bus being based on Volvo’s common e-mobility architecture, major components and sub-systems can be manufactured in large volumes to allow for better uptime for operators.
The platform can also accommodate lengths between 9.5 to 15 metres, has a maximum weight of 27,500kg and has a traction power of up to 400kW. In combination with the 540kWh modular battery arrangement, the platform is suitable for extended city and intercity operations.
“Electromobility is still a growing, fast-moving business, and at Volvo Buses we have gathered more than a decade of firsthand experience, together with customers and partners,” Westerberg says.
“With the launch of the BZR Electric, we’re convinced that we now have a product and a complete offer that will be a long-term solution for customers worldwide.”
