Volgren celebrated the delivery of its 2,500th bus built at its Dandenong factory on Thursday February 14, at a ceremony attended by Victorian local member John Pandazopoulos.
The new owner of the 2,500th bus, Comfort Delgro Cabcharge, is Sydney’s largest private bus operator.
Keith McArtney, Group Chief Engineer and Fleet Manager of Comfort Delgro Cabcharge was in attendance to accept delivery of the bus which is part of an order by them for over 250 buses.
This is the largest order ever placed in Australia by a private bus operator.
Volgren is Australia’s largest bus builder, employing over 330 people and with facilities of over 45,000 square metres. This year Volgren is earmarked to manufacture 450 buses for the Australian market.
Volgren is the manufacturing division of Grenda Corporation, a third generation family business in Dandenong that has been providing integrated public transport solutions for over 60 years. Grenda, with a staff of 2,000 runs a fleet of 1,100 buses in Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane.
Today Volgren has state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Melbourne and Perth and a licensed manufacturer in Brisbane. Overseas, it has alliances with manufacturers in Malaysia and Singapore and is establishing a purpose-built bus manufacturing facility in the United Arab Emirates at Abu Dhabi.
Volgren’s Managing Director, Peter Dale says Volgren’s employees are all very proud and excited to celebrate the milestone.
