Victorian electric bus conference gets underway today

The event, held at Crown Promenade, will focus solely on Victoria’s electric bus manufacturing sector

An event prioritising Victoria’s electric bus manufacturing sector begins in Melbourne today, with the Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union (AMWU) hosting its electric bus conference.

Held in Crown Promenade, the one-day conference will look into the current state of producing electric buses in Victoria, with a variety of speakers to discuss what can be changed to improve manufacturing capabilities.

Starting the morning is Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan, with Skills & TAFE minister Gayle Tierney following and Victorian public transport minister Gabrielle Williams also set to present.

AMWU Victoria’s EV project officer Michalis S Michael will wrap up the first session with a chat about roll out plans, before the Bus Industry Confederation’s Roz Chivers breaks down the current state of zero-emissions bus manufacturing both in Victoria and around Australia.

Volgren business development manager Guilherme Ferreira will discuss manufacturing, with Volgren being a major player in that space in Victoria, before EV FireSafe director Emma Sutcliffe and Kangan Institute program lead Simon Faure talk about safety and training tips respectively.

After lunch, a panel session including representatives from Kinetic, Dyson Group, Ventura, BusVic and the Kangan Institute will unite for a discussion about what can be improved to help operators transition quicker to meet zero-emissions goals, before RMIT Forward development partner Soolin Barclay closes with an insight into project evaluation for introducing electric buses.
