Victorian Budget commits $30 million to improving bus and ferry services

The latest Victorian Budget includes a pipeline of bus project funding to revitalise parts of the state’s bus network

In its 2024/25 state budget, the Victorian government has announced that $30 million of funding will go into improving bus travel and continuing ferry services.

The boosted projects, revealed to deliver bus service improvements across Victoria and support key public transport services, will range from Fishermans Bend to coach service uplifts connecting Yarram and Leongatha to Pakenham train station.

The $30 million funding starts by improving links to new bus interchanges being built at Croydon, Pakenham and Greensborough train stations, as well as improving weekend bus services to and around Chadstone Shopping Centre.

The funding will continue the Melton South Flexiride service while also helping to build new bus stop infrastructure for bus routes across Hastings and the Mornington Peninsula.

The funding will be broken down over four years, with $6.7 million announced for 2024/25, with the funding pipeline to then equate to $5.9 million in 2025/26, $6 million in 2026/27 and $6.2 million in 2027/28.

The ferry side of the funding will see the West Gate Punt and Portarlington ferry services continue.
