Bus passengers in Victoria have now returned to paying for public transport services, with the free fare period over as patrons now pay half price for rides.
The state government has revealed half-price public transport fares are now officially in action, with a full daily fare to cost $5.70 to travel anywhere across the state in a move that saves a regular commuter more than $850 between now and January 1 next year.

The Victorian government says free public transport was a temporary measure to help Victorians, with the government now “slashing commuting costs” for the rest of the year.
Public transport will remain permanently free for under 18s and other special pass holders.
“As Premier, I’m determined to do everything I can to help Victorians who are under pressure,” Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan says.
“This won’t fix everything, but it’s real help right now to make a difference.”
