The Victorian government has announced public transport fare price rises coming into effect in the new year that will see Victorians pay up to $104 more per year on public transport.
The rise will result in commuters paying an extra 40c per day as the full fare daily Myki cap goes up from $11 to $11.40, or to $5.70 for concessions from January 1.

The cost of a one-way trip is up to $5.70 or $3.60 for concession passengers, while on weekends the full daily fares jump to $8 or $4 for concessions.
Over a week for an average Myki card holder taking public transport five days per week, this results in a $104 price rise per year.
Public Transport Victoria (PTV) announced the price rise last week, saying fares are reviewed each year and adjusted as needed.

It comes in a busy period for Victoria’s PT fees, with public transport made free on weekends for two months over summer until February 1, when the Metro Tunnel’s full network of services start.
