Victoria and SA deliver additional bus services for students

As Term 1 nears, both the Victorian and South Australian governments are providing students with extra bus services

The Victorian and South Australian governments have announced additional bus services to support students in the outer suburbs of Melbourne and Adelaide.

New schools in Melbourne’s west are set to benefit from the Victorian government’s additional services. Students at Benim Secondary College in Truganina will be provided six additional services to link students to Williams Landing and Hoppers Crossing.

A new morning and afternoon service at Walcom Ngarrwa Secondary College will support students based in Werribee South and Wyndham Vale, while Yarrabing Secondary College students in Thornhill Park and Rockbank will be provided with a return service.

In Melbourne’s north west, Greenvale Secondary College students will gain two dedicated school bus services. An extra service between Springside West Secondary College and Aintree is also being provided.

We are delivering more school bus services to strengthen our public transport network and to make sure our students get to school on time,” Victorian public and active transport minister Gabrielle Williams says.

“Through Victoria’s Bus Plan, we’re delivering a modern bus network that encourages more people to take the bus.”

In South Australia, 16 extra hybrid buses, built by Scania and South Australian manufacturer BusTech, will be purchased and progressively rolled out over the next three years to support Riverbanks, Aldinga Payinthi and Morialta Secondary Colleges.

Aldinga Payinthi students in Adelaide’s south will receive an extra service to Sellicks Beach, while in Adelaide’s east, morning and evening services will transfer Morialta Secondary students to Paradise Interchange. Both routes will see an additional two services introduced by 2026.

In Adelaide’s northern suburbs, an additional service for Riverbanks students will also transfer its students to Smithfield and Munno Para interchanges.

Across all three schools, the total number of services is set to increase from six to 15 between now and 2026.

The SA government says that while construction takes place on the hybrids, the new services will be carried out by leased buses.

The additional services in Adelaide will begin on January 29 while Melbourne’s extra services will kick off on January 30.
