VIC buses rerouted for top train connections

Bus routes will change in Melbourne’s northwest to improve connections with trains

October 17, 2012

Bus routes will be
changed in Melbourne’s northwest to improve connections with trains, according to Victorian Public Transport Minister Terry Mulder.

Mulder says the changes are part of an initiative to boost the number of weekly metro train trips and extend metro suburban trains.

“46 bus timetables in the north western suburbs will change from November 18 to provide better train connections for thousands of commuters,” Mulder says.

Public Transport Victoria (PTV) Chief Executive Ian Dobbs says train timetables in the northwest have also been re-written to improve connections between the modes.

“PTV is focused on improving the whole journey for commuters,” Dobbs says.

The new timetable is the third change to Melbourne’s train network in the past 18 months.

Metro Chief Executive Andrew Lezala says the timetables have helped untangle the rail network and increase reliability for passengers across Melbourne.

“Metro’s punctuality has improved markedly in the last 18 months, with September’s on-time running of 93.1 percent, the highest since the franchise began,” she says.

Timetables are available now on the PTV website. Printed timetables will be available at premium stations in coming weeks.
