The Public Transport Authority of Western Australian (PTA) has named Veolia Transport – operating as Southern Coast Transit in Perth – as
the preferred tenderer for the Joondalup bus contract area.

Terry Scott, Managing Director for Veolia Transport Perth, says: “We are absolutely thrilled with the news and honoured to be given this opportunity. This is an endorsement of our efforts to work with the PTA in improving public transport in Western Australia.”

The Joondalup and Marmion contracts were put out to tender in June by the PTA in accordance with the normal practice of renewing, on a rotating basis, the 11 long-term bus services contracts.

The Joondalup contract covers the northern suburbs of Perth and commences on May 1, 2011 for an eight-year term. The contract includes 113 buses, 210 staff and three depots.

“We look forward to discussions with the PTA and the incumbent operator to plan a smooth transition for staff, customers and the community,” Scott says.

Veolia Transport is a leading passenger transport operator. In Perth Veolia Transport operates the Fremantle, Mandurah/Rockingham and Perth CATs contracts on behalf of the PTA. It also operates buses in Queensland, New South Wales and the south west of Western Australia, light rail and monorail in Sydney as well as commuter rail in Auckland.
