This weekend, stalwart bus company Ventura Bus Lines will celebrate its centenary of service with a family fun day to be held at Mornington Racecourse.
On Sunday, the day will be held to recognise Ventura’s history operating bus services.
Ventura was founded in Victoria four generations ago and has roughly 1800 employees and a fleet of more than 900 buses.
The company will commemorate and celebrate its 100 years, which began on December 24, 1924, when war veteran Henry Cornwall bought a single bus and began taking people between Box Hill and Spencer Street, now Southern Cross, station.
Now, Ventura carries more than 42 million customers per year using a modern fleet of buses, including 27 zero-emissions vehicles, and was recently acquired by Singapore-based company Keppel Infrastructure Trust.
Ventura managing director Andrew Cornwall will join family, friends, employees, customers and suppliers at the event.
“We are so proud to have all our family, friends and customers with us to celebrate this historic event,” Cornwall says.
“Ventura is synonymous with excellence in transport, and our commitment to improving that service with our eco-friendly buses will continue well into the future.”
As part of the celebrations, dozens of Ventura buses will be used to create a 100 image, and there’ll be a performance car ‘show & shine’, historic and vintage vehicles on display and a charity auction.
