A former editor of ABC magazine has died, leaving a lasting impression on the bus and coach industry Australia-wide

Former editor of Australasian Bus and Coach (ABC) magazine, Robert Birrell, passed away suddenly on Saturday May 21 from anaphylactic shock.
Birrell edited ABC magazine from 2003 to 2007 during the title’s ownership by PSA Media, departing after the company’s acquisition by ACP Magazines and PBL Media.
Long-term ABC contributor Gordon Lowe says it was a great pleasure working with Robert Birrell.
“I most certainly will mourn his passing,” says Lowe, adding that his former editor was a ‘terrific bloke’.
“Robert held a lot of knowledge of the bus industry and attacked his job with a diligence that knew no bounds – and he was always supportive of staff.”
HVA General Manager Phil Ramsden says Robert Birrell had worked and dealt with people across all levels of the bus and coach industry and would be sorely missed.
Ramsden says his colleague made a lasting impression on the industry with a career as an operator, industry magazine editor, and most recently as a supplier in the role of HVA’s Queensland Regional Sales Manager.
“Our deepest sympathy goes to his wife and family at this difficult time,” says Ramsden.
Robert Birrell’s funeral service will be held at 1.30pm, Friday May 27 at the Garden Chapel, Albany Creek Memorial Park, Albany Creek Road, Bridgeman Downs in Brisbane.
