Tyre maker Bridgestone donates $100,000 to the New Zealand Red Cross earthquake appeal

March 10, 2011

Tyre manufacturer Bridgestone’s Australia and New Zealand division has donated $100,000 to the New Zealand Red Cross Earthquake Appeal.

Bridgestone Australia Ltd’s Group Chairman and Managing Director Mr Nobuyuki Mieno says the earthquake had deeply affected the entire Bridgestone family.

“Bridgestone has a long and proud business history in New Zealand, where we are both a leading employer and retailer in the tyre industry,” he says.

“The Christchurch earthquake and its aftermath shocked and saddened us all.”

The 6.3 magnitude quake caused significant loss of life and injury, as well as severely damaging buildings, infrastructure and services.

Mieno says he hopes the donation can help those trying to rebuild their homes, businesses and lives following the earthquake.

The New Zealand Red Cross Earthquake Appeal was set up to assist those affected by the earthquake which struck the city of Christchurch on February 22.

Bridgestone New Zealand Director Ken Oyama and Bridgestone Australia Senior Executive Director Andrew Moffatt presented the donation to New Zealand Red Cross representatives in Auckland on Wednesday.
