TRUCK TECH targets national growth with new appointment

TRUCK TECH continues to make moves to meet lofty expansion goals, this time through the appointment of a popular Australian business leader

Australian heavy vehicle fleet maintenance and repair company TRUCK TECH has appointed a new chief growth and development officer to boost the business’ expansion plans.

International business growth expert Dr Jana Matthews has been appointed to the role to help grow the bus and coach repairs group.

Situated in New South Wales’ Chipping Norton, TRUCK TECH maintains and repairs the fleets of some of Australia’s largest bus operators, with three state-of-the-art fleet maintenance and repair centres being complemented by more than 70 mobile fleet service units.

In 2024, global electric bus manufacturer BYD approved TRUCK TECH to be its repairer of its commercial electric heavy vehicles.

Matthews’ appointment comes after a year where TRUCK TECH serviced more than 12,000 heavy vehicles in its workshops and at customer sites.

“I have asked Dr Jana Matthews to be my ‘co-pilot’ and help me execute the company’s strategic plan, continue to recruit the right people, embed new systems and maintain our world-class culture as we scale,” TRUCK TECH founder and CEO Barry Saad says.

“She will be responsible for holding me and the management team accountable for achieving our ambitious growth goals and will lead key cross-functional projects that will accelerate our growth.”

Matthews has decades of experience helping fast growth companies reach scale, being recognised as an international expert in entrepreneurial leadership and growth. Having founded five companies of her own, Matthews recently stepped down from the role of ANZ chair in business growth at the Australian Centre for Business Growth at UniSA.

With TRUCK TECH having been a graduate of the 10th ANZ Business Growth Program, it was identified as a company with considerable growth potential.

“A commercial fleet needs to have safe and reliable trucks, trailers and buses operating at peak performance, with minimal downtime,” Saad says.

“I established TRUCK TECH to deliver the quality fleet maintenance and repair services that keep those fleets moving. As we continue to accelerate our growth, having a leader with Dr Jana’s knowledge and experience will be a huge advantage to TRUCK TECH.

“This is why we asked Dr J to join our Executive Leadership Team, in this very special role, and we are very excited that she has agreed to do so.”

Matthews’ appointments follows TRUCK TECH’s recent unveiling of Andrew Kearney as its new chief financial officer.

“Having worked with over a thousand SMEs across Australia over the past decade, TRUCK TECH has one of the most exciting growth opportunities I have seen,” Matthews says.

“Road freight traffic is expected to grow 77 per cent by 2050, with an increasing demand from large transport companies for quality fleet maintenance and repairs. TRUCK TECH has a visionary CEO who is laser-focused on customers, quality and safety; an enviable culture with great people; and a strategy-focused Executive Team that knows how to execute.

“I am excited to be working with Barry and the team to build and grow TRUCK TECH into an Australian success story.”
