UrbanThings’ new transport app is now available to help get around the harbour.
Startup company UrbanThings has announced the release of its TripChecker app for Sydney commuters this month.
The app is already available, and shows travelers their numerous options for getting around in some of the world’s most populous cities.
London, New York and Chicago – a particularly tech-savvy city when it comes to travel – have embraced the app which was only released in May this year.
The app shows nearby stops, and then gives the user further details such as imminent arrivals, and the route that particular vehicle will take.
When fully functional, the app supplies live data on times of arrival as well as delays, allowing the user to choose the best route for a particular time.
When ABC tested the TripChecker app at Sydney Airport, the train station data was a mix of live and scheduled times, but the bus stop only showed scheduled times.
ABC has since been told by UrbanThings this was an issue with Transport for New South Wales’ live data feeds, not the app.
The live journey planning feature is likely to be a helpful addition for most users, which could change the way people commute.
In addition, the app also includes a feature which notifies the user when their stop is approaching, in the hope of waking up travelers who have fallen asleep on their journey.
UrbanThings is also offering a year of free Opal travel to one of its Sydney users.
