It was also commended for showcasing commitment to sustainability, customer satisfaction, and positive economic impact on the Manawatu region.

The New Zealand family-owned business introduced Australasia’s first 100% electric bus public transport bus fleet into Palmerston North and Ashhurst earlier this year in partnership with Horizons Regional Council.

“Tranzit has long had a reputation for being leaders in the bus and coach industry and introducing Australasia’s first electric bus fleet earlier into Manawatu earlier this year has been an enormous source of pride for all our team,” Tranzit coaching, intercity and tourism general manager expressed while accepting the award.

“Not only did we design, build and introduce 42 brand new electric buses into service on the new and improved, high frequency bus network as well as invest and install 1MW of charging infrastructure to support that, but our team has delivered an outstanding quality of service.”

“I want to thank Horizons Regional Council for their trust and support in our family business which has been around for almost 100 years and plans to be here for another 100.”

This award comes just weeks after Tranzit won the Sustainable Journeys Award in the 2024 Australasian Fleet Champions Awards also in recognition of introducing Australasia’s first 100% electric public transport fleet into Palmerston North and for demonstrating an alternative way to meet public transport decarbonisation targets by converting two diesel buses to 100% electric – the first being a Southern Hemisphere first.

Both initiatives have had tangible results in diesel savings, preventing C02 from entering the atmosphere and improving the passenger and driver experience, thanks to a quieter and smoother journey.
