MEMBERS OF THE bus and coach industry and community transport sector have a prime opportunity to build their management skills. Eight free scholarships are on offer to complete a Certificate of Transport Management (CTM) at Sydney University’s Institute of Transport and Logistics Studies (ITLS). Applications deadline is April 27!
The CTM has been running since 1992, with ITLS and Transport for NSW (TfNSW) offering scholarships for community transport service providers (CTSPs) since 2016. The eight free scholarships, worth $2799 each this year, are available for individuals working in TfNSW-contracted CTSPs.
The 2018 edition will comprise a four-day professional development course from July 17-20, encompassing knowledge and skills in management, planning and policy to promote best practice in running an efficient, safe and successful transport service.
A timely initiative in an era of rapid technological change and demand-based evolution, the itinerary is designed to address the current challenges of the community. On-demand transport will be one of the main discussions as part of the 2018 course, according to TfNSW.
Ian MacDonald from the Australian Public Transport Industrial Association (APTIA), Clayton Davidson from Busways and John Nelson from the University of Aberdeen’s Transport Studies division will join staff from ITLS, TfNSW and BusNSW as the industry representatives, specialist consultants and academic experts to impart their wisdom to participants.
“Continuing education is more important than ever with technology driving changes to the way that public transport operates,” a TfNSW spokesperson says.
“However, the fundamentals are still the same and it is important to understand the basics of transport and business management.
“This course also helps to establish trusting partnerships between operators, customers and governments.”
All applicants of indigenous and culturally and linguistically diverse groups are encouraged to apply; unsuccessful applicants will be offered a special registration fee of $2250 until 1 June, 2018.
Submissions via the University of Sydney website close on April 27. Applicants will be notified of the outcome by May 14.
