Translink opens tender for nine new Ipswich and Logan routes

The tender comes after almost $70 million was included in last years budget to improve bus services across the state

The Department of Transport and Main Roads has commenced an open market procurement for a new bus service contract to operate nine new routes around the Ipswich and Logan areas of South East Queensland.

The nine new routes form part of a bus service improvement package in the Ipswich and Logan areas to grow the bus network to reduce congestion and improve community access to jobs, healthcare and education.

It is intended the new routes will be implemented progressively over the next three years, with an estimated 37 state-managed buses (including spares) and depot infrastructure allocated to deliver the services.

All potential participants will have until close of business (5:00pm AEST), April 23, 2025 to submit queries or clarification requests to the State concerning any aspect of the Invitation to Offer (ITO) process.

Official submissions are due at 12:00pm AEST, May 7, 2025, with the decision expected to be announced on June 4.

Last year, during the 2024/25 QLD budget, a $70 million investment was made through the Bus Services Investment Program which aims to improve community travel options through new bus services and bus stop infrastructure.

The upgrades plan to target Queensland communities experiencing significant population growth and will introduce bus services to many areas for the first time, with Ipswich and Logan set to receive a number of new services.

The initial investment will be supported by ongoing funding of more than $24 million per year to grow the bus network and reduce congestion, with more people set to access the 50c public transport fare initiative.
