Australian operator Transit Systems has fully embraced the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras 2025, launching a head-turning, pink-wrapped bus that fully embraces the event’s “FREE! TO BE” theme.
The special bus was unveiled on February 18 with a public parade down Oxford Street, before joining the operators usual service and spreading a message of pride, visibility and equality throughout Sydney.

Dedicated team members even took to decorating the bus’s interior, adding their own creative flair in the lead up to its debut.
“Mardi Gras is a powerful celebration of self-expression and community which are values that are at the heart of
Transit Systems,” Transit Systems CEO Michael McGee says.
“Our Mardi Gras bus is a bold and colourful statement of support for inclusivity and equality, and we are proud to bring this celebratory bus to Sydney streets, reaffirming our commitment to the LGBTQIA+ community.
“Supporting this iconic Sydney event, which attracted 250,000 people in 2024, aligns perfectly with our role as
Sydney’s largest bus operator. We are committed to keeping the city moving and ensuring everyone can take part in
such a vibrant and inclusive celebration.”
Among the Transit Systems team celebrating the moment is Geremy Roberts, a proud LGBTQIA+ team member, who
said having visible support from employers makes a real difference.
“As someone who is part of the community, seeing Transit Systems celebrate Mardi Gras with us is significant. This
bus is not only about enjoying the festivities of Mardi Gras, but is also about feeling seen, valued and supported at
work,” Roberts says.
The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival runs from 14 February to 2 March 2025, bringing together communities to celebrate pride, love and self-expression.
