Due to expire on July 1, 2026, TfNSW is seeking NSW government approval to proceed with a two-year extension on new terms. Contract negotiations between the parties remain ongoing, with TfNSW not planning on releasing a tendering opportunity at this time.
When the contract was first signed in 2018, it became the first contract in Sydney to blend both mass and on demand transit.
The NSW government was in charge of timetables, routes and bus stops, and all assets, including depots and buses remaining government-owned. It also included a two year trial of four electric buses between Leichhardt and the city to test sustainable transport solutions.
At this time, it is unknown what the new terms of the contract would be.
Since operating the five-year contract, bus drivers in Region 6 have received praise from passengers across the network, receiving a ‘record-breaking’ year of compliments.
Region 6 Transit Systems bus operator Sam Yazbek, who receives one of the highest rates of positive praise from customer feedback, believes it is all about the energy you bring to each shift.
“A positive attitude helps all situations, coupled with a cheerful nature makes everybody happy as they board the bus,” Yazbek says.
“A smile, accompanied by a ‘good morning’ or ‘good afternoon’ to every passenger, just makes their day. Simply be cheerful.”
Transit Systems says it continues to invest in training and support to ensure Region 6 drivers are equipped not only to navigate roads, but to handle real-life situations with professionalism and care.
