Smith says Transit Systems’ commitment to training staff and creating opportunities for the next generation of jobs summarises this paradigm shift.
“Today, the transport sector is undergoing a remarkable transformation, and at Transit Systems we are at the forefront of this change,” Smith says.
“We recognise the importance of preparing our existing workforce for the challenges ahead while also creating opportunities for the next generation of jobs. Within the next decade, we envision most of our staff transitioning from working on traditional Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) to fuel-cell and battery electric vehicles, requiring a whole new set of skills and knowledge.
“One of our recent recruits is a brilliant graduate electric engineer, Krizell Aligam, who is contribution to projects, ranging from developing hydrogen fuel-cell buses to prototyping fully electric ferries.”
McGee says Smith brings a wealth of experience in roles within large scale operations with national geographic footprints, including rail, mining and logistics sectors.
She has held senior management roles in Downer and Decmil Australia, with McGee confident that Smith’s experience will be a valuable addition to the Transit Systems team.
“With Tanya leading our people and culture initiatives, we’re confident we’ll continue to attract, develop and retain the best talent in the industry,” McGee says.
Smith says a strong-people oriented approach will be the cornerstone to Transit Systems’ success.
“Transit Systems has a reputation of innovation, so we’re well-placed to attract the next generation of employees in the sector,” Smith says.
“There are lots of exciting opportunities to get involved with, from network planning and deploying renewable energy sources to using energy management software and getting behind the wheel of a zero-emissions vehicle.”
