Transdev bus driver recognised for decades of service

A Transdev bus driver was recently shown on SBS Insight for her continued efforts behind the wheel

A Transdev bus driver is proving that age is no barrier as she was recently recognised for her years of service.

Sue Bishop has spent more than three decades driving buses and getting people to where they need to be – she says she wouldn’t change a thing.

Bishop, a Transdev bus driver, was recently featured on an SBS Insight episode showcasing how older people stay active and contribute to society.

Bishop, 75, still drives full-time on Brisbane’s bayside, and was filmed on her normal bus runs before appearing in the studio audience.

“The passengers mean a lot to me. They become part of your life. They like to share things,” Bishop says.

“My age hasn’t slowed me down at all. As soon you get behind that wheel everything changes, as soon as people get on it changes – you’re thinking of other people besides yourself.”

Transdev Queensland managing director Mark Thatcher says Bishop continues to be a valued team member and inspiring role model.

“Sue is a dedicated, caring driver and so friendly and welcoming to all our customers,” Thatcher says.

“We can’t ask for more than that. Sue is vibrant, positive and has great energy – it’s a credit to her and she’s infectious.

“If you’re healthy and active, age really is just a number.”
