New lanes open on major road in Sydney, making way for new Leppington Railway Station
A $509 million upgrade of a major arterial road is complete and will provide improved access to the new Leppington Railway Station in Sydney, the New South Wales (NSW) Government announced recently.
Bringelly Road has been widened to two lanes in each direction and three lanes between the Upper Canal and Eastwood Road, to increase road capacity and improve traffic flow for the growing western Sydney population.
“The Australian and NSW Governments are jointly funding the project as part of the $3.6 billion Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan to widen Bringelly Road to provide improved access to the new Leppington Railway Station, the M5 and M7 motorways and the site of the planned western Sydney airport at Badgerys Creek,” a Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson says.
The new lanes opened to traffic last week and have already helped reduce congestion, with traffic being moved onto new left turning lanes at one of Sydney’s busiest intersections.
“New line marking will also be installed to provide dual right turn lanes from Camden Valley Way to Cowpasture Road.”
While the lanes are open, work is continuing on site and motorists are advised to observe speed limitations where appropriate.
“Work to complete the Bringelly Road upgrade continues to be carried out during standard work hours between 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday and between 8am and 1pm on Saturdays.
“To ensure the safety of workers, road users are advised to allow extra travel time, follow the direction of traffic controllers and keep to the reduced speed limits where in place.”
Further work between Camden Valley Way at Leppington, and King Street at Rossmore should be complete by late next year.
