Toyota’s popular Coaster bus range is shining bright after an upgrade to ensure it meets the impending Euro 5 emission regulations.
All three models in the range will benefit from the mechanical improvements, with a large-size Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler to improve EGR efficiency and reduce oxides of nitrogen fitted to the 4.0-litre direct injection NO4C-UH engine.
Other upgrades include optimisation of the fuel injectors and fuel injection timing, as well as a boost to the fuel injection pressure, for improved combustion, while on the exhaust side the variable-nozzle turbocharger now has improved nozzle control, which helps the performance of the EGR system.
There is also an upgrade of the electrical system, which now runs on 24 volts, which sees a new alternator and starter motor fitted, along with dual 64 amp-hour batteries.
As well as improvements under the skin, operators will appreciate in-cabin upgrades, such as LED (Light-Emitting Diode) illumination for the dials and indicator lamps, a step motor for the movement of indicator needles, an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) odometer and trip meter, and a rheostat to vary illumination levels of the instrument cluster.
Toyota has also added a low-fuel warning lamp, an anti-drag buzzer for the parking brake and a reminder buzzer and lamp for the driver’s seatbelt, while a new indicator lamp signals the driver to indicate if the passenger door is in either automatic or manual mode.
The range-topping Deluxe version also gets a power door lock for both the driver’s door and the gliding passenger door.
Toyota’s recommended prices for the improved Coaster start at $111,000 for the STD manual version, plus on-road costs.
