South Australian operator Torrens Transit has revealed it’s behind the wheel of the SA government’s major public transport upgrade that includes the introduction of the first of 60 new full battery electric buses entering service this month.
This significant fleet renewal marks a strong commitment to a fully decarbonised public transport network in South Australia, with Torrens Transit ensuring the seamless integration and operation of the advanced new fleet across Adelaide’s metropolitan network.
The electric buses will be delivered by Scania and Volgren.
Torrens Transit managing director Andrew Jenkinson says the partnership brings direct benefits to both the community and the operational team.

The new fleet is set to remove more than 4,500 tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere each year, a key step towards the state government’s net zero target by 2050.
Torrens Transit drivers will be operating vehicles designed for the future, featuring zero tailpipe emissions, 43 passenger seats, an approximate range of 350 kilometres on a single charge and a suite of advanced driver assistance systems and driver security screens.
The phased rollout, with the entire fleet expected to be operating by mid-2026, is supported by infrastructure upgrades at the Morphettville depot to increase charging capacity.
Transit Systems CEO Michael McGee reiterated the company’s commitment to supporting government partners with their strategic goals through its local operations.
