Coffs Harbour locals should run to the nearest bus stop and make use of the city’s latest initiative, with free bus travel on weekends set to end July 14.
Funded by $20,000 from the City of Coffs Harbour and significantly subsidised by local bus operators Busways and CDC NSW/Forest Coach Lines, the initiative offers free bus travel on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays on regular routes (excluding school runs) of Busways and CDC’s Forest Coach Lines.
Commencing on April 19, the initiative aims to help all members of the community, with Coffs Harbour mayor Paul Amos saying it will particularly support older people who no longer drive and unlicensed teenagers who rely on others to get around.
“This trial is giving the community an opportunity to experience the convenience and benefits of public transportation free of charge,” he says.
“With three weeks to go, now’s the time to jump on a free bus if you haven’t already given it a go.”
City of Coffs Harbour is also inviting people to share their experience of bus travel during the free fare period via a new survey now open for comment.
“I’ve heard from people in the community who have been surprised how easy it is to catch a bus – including some who probably haven’t been on a bus since their school days.”
