The Tasmanian Greens have backed Metro Tasmania bus mechanics who are planning to walk off the job following concerns about pay rates, staff shortages and underfunding at the state-owned company.
Member for Lyons candidate Tabatha Badger says Metro’s bus mechanics have been under-resourced for the past decade.
“A failure to fill worker vacancies and address staff turnover has put Metro bus mechanics under unacceptable pressure,” Badger says.
“Metro provides an essential service for Tasmanian communities, and it’s time those workers are given the pay and conditions they deserve to keep Tasmania moving.
“The Greens wholeheartedly support Metro bus mechanics in their fight for better pay rates and conditions and will always stand in solidarity with workers seeking to negotiate in good faith to deliver better services for Tasmania.”
