Spheros has received a € 5.5 million contract to install heating and air-conditioning units in 850 buses for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
The two types of buses involved in the contract are the Russian GOLAZ, and the Belarusian MAZ bus. Spheros has spent the last few months installing heaters, water pumps and air-conditioning units into the buses.
In addition to the installation, Spheros are also supplying 24-hour support in the form of 14 service technicians to ensure that the games run smoothly.
Helmut Zanker, the CEO of the Spheros Group, says that “We are very proud to participate in an important project of this kind and to have won a major contract in Russia. Spheros has once again demonstrated its international competence in a major sporting event.”
Spheros is an international manufacturer of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems for buses. Though originally based in Munich, in 2013 they established an Australian presence with the founding of offices in Brisbane and Melbourne.
The 2014 Winter Olympic Games begin in February, and once they conclude the fleet of buses will be reassigned to operate in Moscow.
