Students catching public transport to and from school will see major savings in their banks from this week, with the price of the metroCARD 28-day student pass dropping down from $28.60 to $10.
With the price slash, each trip for students will equate to only 25 cents and will save families up to $242 per year, per child.

The cost of living measure was a key initiative of the state governments recent Budget, which pledged to support $20.7 million over four years to help families.
“This Government is delivering targeted cost of living relief to South Australian families,” SA treasurer Stephen Mullighan says.
“We’re allowing school kids to catch unlimited public transport over 28 days for just $10. This means a child catching the bus or train to school each day will pay the equivalent of a 25-cent fare.
“This policy will encourage more children to catch public transport and will also make it far easier for parents and caregivers to get to work and stay at work rather than be interrupted by the school run.”
As well as cheaper student public transport, the state Government is also extending the $200 schools and materials service charge reduction and has continued the sports voucher program to provide cost of living relief to families.
Combined, these measures could see a family with two school-aged children save $1084 over the next 12 months.
