Smart bus tracking technology has been tracking Queanbeyan and other NSW bus trips to great effect
Transport for NSW says more than 100,000 bus trips in Queanbeyan have been tracked in real time, providing valuable data to help ensure locals have a smoother journey.
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Sam Farraway says the NSW government’s Transport Connected Bus Program was helping make journeys easier and safer for Queanbeyan locals who can now access to up-to-date information at their fingertips.
“We’re making it so much easier for families in regional NSW to use buses in their town with real-time, user-friendly trip information at their fingertips,” Farraway says.
“I’m pleased to say we have now tracked more than 100,0000 bus trips helping provide valuable data to help ensure commuters have a smoother journey.
“As well as information on the bus’s movements, people can see exactly how full their service is, thanks to passenger counting technology installed on vehicles.
Member for Monaro Nichole Overall says Queanbeyan commuters can access information about 176 bus routes and more than 1,300 bus stops.

“This technology is making a real difference to people’s lives – parents and carers will be able to track the bus on which their child is coming home from school, and families can know exactly when to meet a bus to collect an elderly relative,” Overall says.
Since 30 March 2021, connected vehicle technology installed on 110 buses in Queanbeyan has been feeding data into Transport for NSW’s Trip Planner and other transport apps.
People can use these tools to access up-to-date information on their bus location, its predicted arrival time and its capacity.
In rolling out the program in Queanbeyan, Transport for NSW worked with six local operators:
· QCity Transit
· Bungendore Bus and Coach
· Braidwood Buses
· Wayne Fanning
· Lynn and Terry Hart Nerriga Buses
· CG Grant
As well as Queanbeyan, Transport Connected Bus technology has been rolled out in 13 other regional cities across NSW with two more to come later this month.
