Smart ticketing soon available on South East Queensland transport

Smart Ticketing is also available on South East Queensland’s (SEQ) train and tram network, Brisbane River ferries, and some SEQ buses.

Translink is now almost halfway through rolling out smart ticketing on 13 SEQ bus operators, allowing customers to pay for public transport with smart phones, smart watches and debit cards.

Hornibrook Bus Lines, Thompson Bus Services, Brisbane Bus Lines and Kangaroo Bus Lines have already adopted the technology, following Smart Ticketing trials commencing on Caboolture Bus Lines in August, and Kinetic Sunshine Coast in September.

Customers have also been quick to adopt Smart Ticketing on buses, with more than 100,000 trips being completed since the launch on Caboolture Bus Lines.

Despite no longer needing a go card to transfer between a SEQ train and participating bus operators, customers must continue to tap on at the start of their journey and tap off at the end of each trip.

If customers are transferring to a remaining bus operator that is not yet participating in the Smart Ticketing trial, they will need to continue to use their go card at this time.

Smart Ticketing trials are being progressively activated on the remaining seven bus and ferry operators in the coming months and you can stay up to date as the rollout continues.
