The next phase of Queensland’s smart ticketing scheme has just rolled out, with passengers across the entire Redlands region now able to pay for buses and ferries using phones, debit cards and smart watches.
While smart ticketing has been available onboard Brisbane River ferry services since August, the launch on Southern Moreton Bay Island (SMBI) ferries means that smart ticketing is now available across the entire South East Queensland (SEQ) ferry network.

Dozens of operators across the state have already activated the new system since the start of 2024, with six remaining bus operators to be progressively activated in the coming months.
More than 140,000 trips have been taken on buses since August 2024, and more than 730,000 trips on ferries, with customers easily adapting to using smart ticketing payment methods across both modes.
Despite no longer needing a go card in the Redlands region, if customers are transferring to a remaining bus operator that is not yet participating in the Smart Ticketing trial, they will need to continue to use their go card at this time.
