The Transport Workers Union is pleased with the outcomes of a meeting held last week after Transit Systems started operating in Sydney’s Region 3 last month.
Transit Systems started operating in Region 3 on October 13 replacing Busabout, Metro-Link, Westbus and Hopkinsons.
Bus drivers in south western Sydney stopped work for the meeting in response to the Transport Workers Union’s concerns over what they believe has been an ill prepared takeover of the contract.
TWU New South Wales State Secretary Wayne Forno says the company has agreed to a number of the union’s demands.
“The TWU confronted the company about numerous issues from confusing timetables, lack of adequate training for drivers unaccustomed to new routes introduced by management; and the serious risk to Workplace Health and Safety on the site, which is essentially a construction site,” he says.
“The results of yesterday’s stop work are an important breakthrough highlighting the strength of union solidarity and power.”
Transit Systems Chief Executive Officer Clint Feuerherdt says: “We hope that we can work with the TWU to deliver the service the community expects rather than against them”.
