Saturday’s BusNSW management seminar will see the launch of a new handbook with a strong safety message

BusNSW will launch a new Work Health and Safety (WHS) handbook at the 2013 BusNSW Management Seminar on Saturday.
With more than 200 delegates registered for this year’s seminar, held at Manly’s Novotel Pacific Hotel in Sydney, BusNSW Executive Director Darryl Mellish, says the event is a the ideal platform to launch the new WHS handbook.
Mellish says the handbook is an important initiative for NSW bus and coach operators.
“The handbook has been developed by BusNSW to assist members in providing safe work places,” says Mellish.
“The aim is to provide an overview of the Work Health and Safety Act in a user friendly way, with a focus on issues specific to the bus and coach industry.
“It is important for bus operators to understand the changes from the old OH&S laws and the new requirements under WHS,” he says.
The BusNSW WHS Handbook has been developed in addition to two new online training WHS modules available on the BusNSW website.
“Focussing on WHS risk management, the new online modules are the second and third WHS online modules that BusNSW has released in the last 12 months,” Mellish says.
“The modules have been highly praised both within the industry and by WorkCover, who said that the modules were ‘a pleasure to review’,” he says.
“Adapting in Dynamic Times”, the theme of the 2013 Management Seminar, reflects the need for operators to evolve and continue to adapt to changes being driven by government, technology and the community.
Mellish says the strong representation of NSW operators attending the seminar shows they are keen to learn more about contract performance regimes, compliance issues, the national strategy for moving people, and global trends in bus manufacturing.
The hardcopy version of the WHS Handbook is part of the BusExec management information series, which also include guides to workers compensation and bus operator accreditation.
The WHS handbook has been developed as part of a project funded under the WorkCover NSW Assist program and will be distributed to over 600 operators across NSW.
