South Australian operator Torrens Transit says it is proud to be behind the wheel of the South Australian government’s major public transport upgrade that started late last year with the introduction of the first of 60 new battery electric buses into service.
This significant fleet renewal marks a strong commitment to a fully decarbonised public transport network in South Australia, with Torrens Transit ensuring the seamless integration and operation of the advanced new fleet across Adelaide’s metropolitan network.
Torrens Transit managing director Andrew Jenkinson emphasised the direct benefits this partnership brings to both the community and the operational team.
“The arrival of these electric buses is a pivotal moment for Torrens Transit and for the South Australian community. This is more than just a fleet upgrade; it’s an investment in cleaner air, quieter neighbourhoods, and the enhanced safety of our passengers and drivers,” he says.
“We are proud to partner with the state government to achieve their net zero targets while simultaneously ensuring our drivers are behind the wheel of the latest technology, delivering superior comfort and safety to every commuter.”
The new fleet is set to remove more than 4,500 tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere each year, a key step towards the state government’s net zero target by 2050.

Torrens Transit drivers will be operating vehicles designed for the future, featuring zero tailpipe emissions, 350km range per single charge, full safety systems and USB/USBC charge points and passenger information display screens.
The phased rollout, with the entire fleet expected to be operating by mid-2026, is supported by infrastructure upgrades at the Morphettville depot to increase charging capacity.
Michael McGee, CEO of Transit Systems, reiterated the company’s commitment to supporting government partners with their strategic goals through its local operations.
