The new Volvo/Volgren buses were designed for demanding operational conditions, ensuring dependable service in regional areas

In a bid to transform school transportation in regional communities, The Department for Education South Australia has ordered 28 brand-new Volvo B8R’s featuring Volgren Endura bodies.

The new buses will provide The Department for Education a school bus that is both durable and reliable, two factors that are especially important when operating in rural communities with often challenging road conditions.

The buses are equipped with cutting-edge technology which offers exceptional ride quality, advanced safety features, and energy-efficient operations that align with global best practices in sustainable bus solutions.

Their robust and innovative design ensure that they not only stand up to the rigorous demands of regional routes but also provide passengers with a superior travel experience.

“I’m pleased that we are making this significant investment for the future by purchasing 28 new, 57-seater diesel school buses from Volvo Group Australia to add to our fleet,” Department for Education SA COO says.

“We welcome more Volvo Buses into our operations, as they provide a robust, reliable, safe and efficient solution that not only meets our current needs but also paves the way for a sustainable future in school bus transportation.”

Volvo is set to begin delivering the buses to the Department for Education in late Q4 of 2025.

Volvo Bus general manager Mitch Peden says this order is a testament to Volvo’s dedication to serving regional communities and providing safe and premium school buses.

“Volvo has built a world-renowned image in safety – making Volvo school buses ideal for this contract,” Peden says.

“Volvo has included many safety features as standard in our Volvo B8R offering such as Volvo Driver Support Systems – which further enhances Volvo’s position as the safest bus on Australian roads.

“We’re proud to support the Department for Education South Australia in their commitment to delivering better school buses across South Australia.”

Volvo has worked closely with bodybuilder partner Volgren to deliver the buses on Volgren Endura bodies. Designed for demanding operational conditions, the Endura offers exceptional durability, lightweight efficiency, and ease of maintenance.

Following a highly successful trial with the Department for Education in recent years, being awarded this significant project is an honour for Volgren,” Volgren CCO Yuri Tessari says.

“It reinforces the trust our customers place in us and highlights the quality and reliability that define our buses in the Australian market.

“Our recently announced expansion into South Australia is built on a commitment to continuous service and support for our partners, including the Department for Education, ensuring we remain a trusted supplier for years to come.”
