At a time of year when the local industry may be expected to cool down, deliveries ramped up instead, exclusive ABC data reveals.
The weather may be frosty, but the bus and coach market has heated up to record its best figure for the year with 120 deliveries.
It easily beats 2018’s previous high of 108 in March and, encouragingly, is 29 more than this time last year.
In fact, deliveries have not hit such numbers since 2015 – when Mercedes-Benz was involved in the deliveries reporting process.
The market was driven by Volvo, marking its biggest order for the year with over half a century. Scania followed on 25; also a strong month for the Swede. Yutong was another manufacturer to hit double figures, while ABC welcomes I-Bus to the deliveries column.
In a similar pattern for the body builders, Volgren also hit a half-century in its most prosperous month. There was a big gap between it and second-placed Yutong on 13. The remaining orders were split among 15 builders, highlighting a competitive market.
The leaders in each segment had dominant months as Thermo King also hit top figures in June, recorded in 65 deliveries. Spheros was next on 23, while Yutong followed on 13.
Again NSW was the most active state, involved in half the nation’s orders. Victoria, Queensland and WA followed, while NT and Tasmania also took orders in June.
