Queanbeyan to receive 90 more weekly bus services

As part of the Regional Cities Services Improvement Program, 90 more bus services will run in Queanbeyan from this week onwards

The New South Wales government says Queanbeyan commuters will enjoy more bus services after the state government announced 90 additional weekly services starting this week.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW Paul Toole says the new bus network is being rolled out under the NSW government’s 16 Regional Cities Services Improvement Program, which is delivering better public transport for the regions.

“Since 2019, we have delivered an additional 2,500 bus services across our state to make daily life easier for people living in key regional centres like Queanbeyan,” Toole says.

“With 90 extra services a week on offer from this week, locals now have more than 900 options to get them where they need to go, at a time that best suits them.

“We’ve also invested in real-time tracking which means passengers can better track their bus service and spend less time waiting at the bus-stop and more at your destination.”

Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Sam Farraway says a new timetable and bus routes will provide Queanbeyan residents and visitors with better connectivity and increased services at off-peak times and on weekends.

“We listened and are delivering an extra 90 bus services each week for Queanbeyan locals that will make a real difference to daily life for the community, providing people with new travel options and flexibility to get to school, work, shops and to access essential services,” Farraway says.

Member for Monaro Nichole Overall says it’s important that people in Queanbeyan have a public transport network that suits their needs.

“We’ve heard the community loud and clear and with 90 additional weekly bus services and new timetables and routes we’re giving residents in Queanbeyan and the surrounding district more public transport options, at times they want to travel and to places they need to get to,” Overall says.

“Whether people need to catch a bus to go to work or TAFE, run errands or to socialise in town, getting around Queanbeyan or to Canberra is about to get a whole lot easier.”

The 90 extra services builds on 68 extra services added in 2021 under the first phase of the program and the more than 100,000 bus trips tracked in real time thanks to improved connected vehicle technology.

Changes include faster and more direct journeys, additional services operating in the morning and afternoon peaks and services operating more frequently during off-peak periods.

There will also be improved cross-border services to key destinations in Canberra including Civic, Woden and Majura Park and coordinated transfers at Queanbeyan Interchange to provide greater travel options with less waiting.

Other benefits include improved connections with Queanbeyan train station and Canberra Airport, removal of some one-way loop services and introduction of two-way routes, and more weekend services including new Sunday and public holiday services.
