Proud CDC mechanic supports budding Indigenous apprentices

As both a promising fighter and a proud Kamilaroi man, Harrison Winters is also having an impact at a popular CDC NSW depot

Harrison Winters is a proud Kamilaroi Man who works at CDC NSW’s Emu Plains Depot.

As a full-time diesel mechanic, he has taken on an unofficial mentor role of two Indigenous apprentices he is working with.

“I enjoy engaging, communicating and supporting the two Aboriginal apprentices we have here at this depot,” Winters says.

“I genuinely want them to succeed in their apprenticeships so they can make their parents, families and communities proud.”

Winters has worked at the depot for six months and has found the workplace is supportive and provides a safe environment to work in.

“I am learning every day from my fellow mechanics and the staff here are great to work with,” Winters says.

He especially likes the flexibility of his job with CDC because he is also training to be a professional fighter.

“I have been professional for the past two years, I recently fought in Adelaide for the South Australian Title, and although I was beaten I learned a lot from that fight,” he says.

“Being a professional boxer means that I train five to six days a week, for two hours a day after I finish work.

“Boxing has given me many tools in which I incorporate into my work practices and social life, things like discipline and putting your mind to it, you can do anything.”

Winters is doing just that at CDC too, where he is mentoring other young workers to succeed, thrive and make a difference both professionally and personally.
