United States-based mobile ticketing company sets sights on Australasian coach operators

Mobile ticketing firm Bytemark is setting its sights on bringing its BusConnect software to regional bus companies in Australia and New Zealand.

The United States-based organisation already provides payment platforms and an app for New York Waterways and a number of public transport providers in the United Kingdom.

Bytemark is now seeking bus and coach operators to partner with on the first mobile ticketing solution for the private bus industry in Australia.

“Our innovative mobile ticketing product will facilitate positive changes to the way operators do business in Australasia,” Bytemark sales director Asia-Pacific Martin Hamilton says.

The organisation produces mobile apps for individual operators, as well as a single app that offers tickets for and information about multiple coach operators, to help increase patronage for all.

“In an increasingly urban society, we want to put forward products and transit solutions that help increase ridership of multiple modes of public transportation,” Bytemark CEO Micah Bergdale says.

“The more we can support and build up public transportation, the larger impact we can have on pushing urban mobility into the tech-enabled future.”

The end goal is to increase the intercity and commuter transport options available between states and cities, by allowing a user to search for the trip they needs with matching bus and coach providers.

The BusConnect mobile app enablaes passengers to purchase and store tickets on their mobile devices, so they simply show their smartphone screen to bus operators, or scan the on-screen barcode upon boarding.

Bergdale says having multiple operators represented in one app helps to better connect cities and will help ensure the long-term viability of regional coach services into the future.
