Perth uses Parkeon’s real-time tracking for busport project

Western Australia busport will use Parkeon Real Time Tracking System (RTTS) as the ticketing platform

A Parkeon Real Time Tracking System (RTTS) will be used as part of the Perth Busport project to provide real-time journey tracking for passengers.

The contract will see the Infigo driver console, and associated technologies, introduced across the Transperth fleet of 1,482 buses in readiness for the opening of the Wellington Street Underground Bus Station by early 2016.

The RTTS system developed by Parkeon forms a significant part of the contract awarded by the Western Australia Public Transport Authority to Downer EDI Engineering Power.

"This project success continues our long standing relationship with the Public Transport Authority of Western Australia, and is a world-first in the application of real-time technology," says Parkeon Australia Director Dave Thompson.

"It will deliver significant benefits to a public transport network at the heart of major urban regeneration investment in Perth."

The tracking system will also deliver airport-style departure gate information to passengers via electronic screens in the central waiting area.

"The new system will help create better linkages across the city by providing better information to customers, offering improved operational efficiencies to transport companies, and delivering a best--in-class platform for the PTA to utilise for future ticketing technologies."

The project award augments Parkeon’s position as the leading provider of mass transit ticketing systems in Australia, with schemes also currently running in Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne.
