Air-con group’s Aussie plan

A German air-conditioning maker has announced its plans for the Australian bus industry

June 5, 2013

Based in the Bavarian heartland of prestige German automotive manufacturing comes Australia’s newest entrant into bus air-conditioning – Spheros.

With its Australian head office in Melbourne and a base in Brisbane, Spheros sees its role as entering strategic partnerships in an industry it now considers to be opening up to major international bus manufacturers.

“Until recently Australia was a self-contained, independent bus market with a well-developed route network within and between the large cities,” a company media statement says.

“The market is gradually opening itself up to the major international bus manufacturers, currently in the city bus segment.”

According to Spheros Group CEO Helmut Zanker, proximity to customers and their needs is extremely important to his group.

“We must maintain an insight into the developments and trends on the bus market,” he says.

“We can only satisfy the requirements placed on our products competently and flexibly if we have an experienced team with a local presence.”

Spheros recently recruited former QTK national sales manager Anthony O’Donnell into a senior role.

Heading Spheros in Australia as Managing Director is Paul Williams, who recently managed the company’s South African operation in Durban.

Williams is acknowledged as having a high level of technical proficiency in air-conditioning, and leads a team of four specialist Australian staff.

Zanker says the demands placed on Spheros climate control products strongly depend on the regional conditions.

He says for this reason, in addition to the standard product portfolio and after-sales service, Spheros also offers its customers in Australia application development for individual solutions.

With his comprehensive know-how in the technical and commercial sector, Williams will be directing sales, extending air-conditioning application and expanding existing customer relations.
