Volvo to launch new coach in Australia

Volvo’s new B11R will be revealed to the Australian market in July

April 20, 2012

Volvo’s new B11R will be revealed to the Australian market in July.

Volvo announced today it would showcase the B11R at
the Moonee Valley Maintenance Conference and Bus Expo, July 2-3, 2012.

The 3-axle B11R has a new 11-litre diesel engine with 6 in-line cylinders, an overhead camshaft, four valves per cylinder and controlled electronic injection.

Volvo says the engine design results in fuel-efficiency with high power, generating between 1,600Nm and 2,150Nm of torque.

The coach
comes in 330hp, 370hp, 410hp
– also in EEV version – or 450hp in
Euro 5 configuration.

In comparison to the Volvo B13R, the B11R also comes with an automatic transmission option in its 330hp or 370hp models, while the bigger 410hp and 450hp models are equipped with the 12-speed Volvo I-Shift.

Volvo says the B11R has been designed for long service intervals and simple maintenance.

The oil change intervals have been lengthened and many crucial components are maintenance free, such as prop-shafts, half-shafts and rear wheel bearings.

Volvo’s multiplexed electronics system also functions as a preventative maintenance and diagnostics tool.

Volvo Bus General Manager Peter Duncan says while the Volvo B13R remains the
best chassis for premium luxury coaches touring long distances across tough terrain, sometimes it offers more features and power than a customer’s operations require.

“The new B11R will therefore be a great addition to the Volvo range and will mean we will have something for every need and preference,” Duncan says.
