Translink has released new Go Card payment options ahead of ticket increases scheduled for January 4, 2010. New prepaid $20 Go
Translink has released new Go Card payment options ahead of ticket increases scheduled for January 4, 2010.
New prepaid $20 Go Cards are now available from retailers as part of the move towards paperless public transport by 2011.
Transport Minister Rachel Nolan says the pre-loaded card is a ready-to-go, off-the-shelf product similar to a pre-loaded phone card.
“The cards will carry $15 worth of travel and a $5 deposit which allows travellers to use the card to get home once the stored value reached zero,” Nolan says.
“Go Cards will represent even greater value over paper tickets from January 4 and the new product will make a great stocking filler for those still using paper tickets.”
And after a delay, Go Card users now have the option to “set and forget” with an auto top-up facility available through Translink.
Robert Dow from Commuter advocacy group, Rail Back on Track, welcomes the Go Card auto top-up facility.
“Commuters have long wondered when the auto top up function for the Go Card would be turned on,” Dow says.
“We are delighted that it is now activated.”
Nolan says the auto top-up function means Go Card users can be assured their card will always be in positive balance before using trains, buses or ferries on the Translink network.
When a Go Card is registered with Translink, commuters have the option to activate an auto payment system via their credit card.
“This is a major new piece of functionality on the Go Card system,” Nolan says.
“Customers now have the choice to avoid queues at ticket machines altogether and to avoid any last-minute detours when the balance on their card gets low.
Record numbers of passengers have switched to Go Cards following the recent fare change announcement.
