New South Wales based operator Premier Transport Group has announced a collaboration with the Illawarra Police Command for an initiative focused on community safety and driver respect.
The idea behind the new initiative is to keep both the passengers and drivers onboard Premier’s bus services safe.
“This partnership aims to enhance the safety of both Premier’s workers and passengers while addressing behaviours that could jeopardise safety and at the same time promoting revenue protection and better network education,” Premier Transport Group director John King says.
Key aspects of the collaboration include behaviour monitoring, with measures to be implemented to observe and address unsafe or inappropriate behaviour both by passengers and drivers including driver training for handling difficult situations or engaging police in community outreach.

The partnership will also allow for new safety campaigns to be launched of promote safe travel practices, ensuring staff are respected, while revenue protection and fare evasion is also a major focus of the collaboration.
On top of this, discussions around organising events or community meetings to foster good relations between staff, police and the community could help build trust, while crisis management plans could see the development of emergency protocols for transport staff.
Finally, the pair will also work to establish feedback channels for drivers and the community to report concerns or provide feedback about safety issues.
“It’s great to see such collaborations aimed at promoting a safer environment for everyone involved,” King says.
