Optibus report outlines top industry priorities for 2023

In its latest report, Optibus has discussed the highest priorities bus and coach operators around the world are addressing this year

End-to-end software platform provider for public transport Optibus has published a new report with survey insights into the industry’s top priorities for 2023 and beyond.

The report, Focus on the People, looks at the top five trends in the public transportation and technology industry.

The report includes survey results from 250 public transportation professionals across 24 countries.

In the e-book, which is now available to read, Optibus says the top five trends in the industry for 2023 circle around:

  • Driver retention and satisfaction
  • Use of real-time information
  • Passenger experience
  • Fleet electrification
  • Cost savings

The trends show that half of the report’s respondents believe that driver shortages and electric vehicles will have the biggest impact on their organisation in the next three years.

Despite this change, operators throughout the world say that lifestyle rostering and driver wellbeing will be a priority this year for only 51 per cent, while 38 per cent of respondents say they’ll be prioritising electric vehicle scheduling.

In the Latin America region, inflation and rising fuel costs remain a top concern, while North American operators reported not being as concerned about this.

Optibus says real-time updates and management remains a recurring theme, with operators wanting to see more of when it comes to depot operations, driver communication and passenger information.
