On demand transport to hit Toowoomba

The Queensland government has announced a new on demand transport service in Toowoomba to make travel easier

The Queensland government has announced that a new on demand transport (ODT) public transport bus service is set to start this week in Toowoomba.

The ODT aims to bring together people looking to travel at the same time, picking them up from or close to their homes in the roam zone before taking them to a selected key location.

The new network will service seven key locations in Toowoomba including shopping, employment and healthcare centres.

The ODT will replace the current Kan-go service and will improve access to the wider public transport network throughout Toowoomba.

“Toowoomba was one of the first cities in Australia to have responsive services when the Kango was introduced in 2005. With the evolution of ride-sharing applications, we are excited that again, Toowoomba will be at the forefront of on-demand services,” Toowoomba Transit chief operating officer Paul Davies says.

“We look forward to welcoming existing and new customers aboard ODT from September 25.”

The service is pre-booked to maximise convenience for customers with bookings able to be made via the Translink On Demand app, over the phone or online.

Customers using the Translink On Demand app can easily manage their bookings, track their service and receive real-time notifications.

Key locations will have fixed pick up and drop off points, other pickup points across the roam zone may vary as they will not be restricted to using fixed bus stops or signage. This flexible approach is aimed at enhancing convenience and choice for customers.

For customers in the roam zone, ODT will help make public transport more accessible, picking up customers near their booking location instead of having to travel to the nearest bus stop.

Customers who have accessibility needs can add their accessibility requirements to their Translink On Demand app profile.

More information on the new ODT service and how it works is available by calling 13 12 30.

“The introduction of ODT is an exciting public transport change in Toowoomba and will help create a seamless customer experience and encourage public transport usage,” Queensland transport and main roads minister Mark Bailey says.

“The dedicated ODT service will be simpler to use and understand, with greater route flexibility and improved on-time performance.

“We know from other recently introduced or upgraded flexible transport services that customer feedback and use has been supportive.”
