NSW pumps extra funds into rest areas

NSW will match an almost $10 million federal investment in rest areas on five of the state’s highways. Minister Assisting

NSW will match an almost $10 million federal investment in rest areas on five of the state’s highways.

Minister Assisting the Minister for Transport David Borger says NSW will spend $9.76 million on rest areas after the Rudd Government offered the same figure as part of its heavy vehicle rest area funding program.

The rest areas will be located along the Hume, Mitchell, New, New England and Princes highways, with the Government yet to determine specific locations.

“The Federal Government has offered NSW another $9.76 million to upgrade heavy vehicle rest areas on the basis that NSW matches that funding,” Borger says.

“The federal and NSW governments have already invested $16 million in upgrading existing and building new rest areas.”
