Executive Director of the Sydney Chamber of Commerce, Patricia Forsythe, has welcomed the release of a key plank of the NSW Opposition’s transport policy.
“It’s pleasing to see a solid policy contribution outside of the election spotlight,” Forsythe says.
“The impact of congestion and inefficient transport services continue to be a major frustration for the business community.”
Under the Opposition’s plan, buses, trains and ferries would be run by the same authority to enhance coordination and integration of the services.
“There’s a strong argument which says that a single authority would have greater responsibility for the delivery of transport services. A single transport authority is a worthy proposal and warrants further debate,” she claims.
“Following the embarrassment of the Tcard experience, it’s hard to deny the case for better integration of services.
The Sydney Chamber of Commerce has been a consistent advocate of the need for an integrated transport strategy for Sydney.
“Other Australian and international cities have shown that an umbrella authority has merit, particularly when it comes to ticketing and timetabling,” Forsythe says.
