Next red bus takes path to Parramatta

It’s six down and seven to go as NSW Transport’s Sydney Metrobus project nears halfway point, the latest addition cutting a northern arch to Parramatta

September 29, 2010

The pathway for Sydney’s latest Metrobus service – Macquarie Park to Parramatta – has been released, with the service starting early October.

Parramatta NSW MP Tanya Gadiel says the M54 service doubles the buses running between Parramatta and Macquarie Park along Pennant Hills Road, Carlingford Rd and Epping Road each week from 385 to 840 services.

“Both Parramatta and Macquarie Park are growing employment centres, providing jobs for tens of thousands of workers,” Gadiel says.

“From Sunday 10 October, the Metrobus M54 will replace the route 548 to provide high frequency, high capacity links between these two important hubs,” she says.

“An extra 455 services a week providing capacity for an extra 26,000 passengers a week is great news for residents of the north western suburbs.”

Gadiel says the M54 will run seven days a week with a 10-minute frequency during peak periods, every 15minutes during the weekday off-peak, and 20 minutes in the evening and on weekends.

“The M54 will provide more services for people who work in Parramatta and Macquarie Park, for students and staff going to Macquarie University and more buses for shoppers, diners and movie goers heading to Parramatta and Macquarie Centre.”

The M54 service is the sixth Metrobus to take to Sydney’s roads and the second connecting Parramatta.

“It joins the M52 which began on 8 August and connects Parramatta, Ryde, Drummoyne, Rozelle and Circular Quay,” Gadiel says.

Transport Minister John Robertson says a further seven Metrobus routes will be rolled out across Sydney by mid-2011.

“All up, the expanded 13-route Metrobus network will put 8,000 more bus services on the road each week,” he says.

“Since the first route started in October 2008, more than 5 million people have used a Metrobus service.”
